PREVIOUSLY WRITTEN SCRIPTZ from July 7, 2008

Peace Warrior,

Greetings from LYLAS 4 Life Ministries, “A modern day ministry, delivering the word of God through technology to unite, empower, and uplift sistahs in Christ.” In addition to your weekly TextScriptz, I send you God’s love, peace, and blessings. I pray that God continues to teach you how to walk in faith, love, and forgiveness.

I have said before that I am like a bull that rarely bothers anyone unless a person keeps waving the red flag in front of my face and then surprisingly I can snap. However, it takes a lot to get me to that point and I can honestly say that God delivered me from a quick temper years ago. Although I am not easily angered there are two things that can become red flags for me; not being allowed to express my feelings and someone down right disrespecting me in front of other people. The young folks use the term “being treated” as a way to describe someone inappropriately speaking to you, particularly in front of other people. Typically, I don’t surround myself with people of that nature, but there have been circumstances in which I have been around people who are notorious for “treating” people, as an attempt to show out or
play tough in front of others.

Well, circumstances that are beyond my control have placed me in frequent contact with an “extreme treater”. As I am a human with many flaws, it becomes quite challenging week after week to be around a teenager who shows absolutely no respect for most adults and seems to speak with even more disrespect depending on how many people she has in the audience when she puts on her showcase. It can be so bad, that a person with a short fuse would have lost their job a long time ago. Last week as I was being “treated” I started seeing red flags, red blankets, red houses, red socks, and red crayons. My patience had reached its peak and red was all I could see. I felt my blood boiling, but glory be to God for his word. It was one of the scriptures that he often reminds me of when dealing with this young lady, that kept the bull
from coming out of me. I heard the sweet gentle whisper of the Holy Spirit reminding me to ”bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you (Luke 6:28). I would be a liar if I said that I didn’t vent like a fool in anger to my co-workers about the situation. However, the next day my eyes were clear and I was able to express a more Godly perspective to those same co-workers.

See, I work with several teens both males and females and praise God that I can honestly say that I have a good relationship with the majority of them. In fact, I tend to get hello and good bye hugs whenever I come to their houses to interact with them.  I had to realize that it would be too easy if there were no challenging teens in the bunch. It would be nothing for me to bless those who bless me, but the growth comes from me learning to bless even this young lady who literally curses me and other staff out all the time. Knowing that I am in the preparation stage for my purpose and destiny, I’ve decided to step up to the challenge at hand. When she starts waving that red flag in my face, I will let it represent love and smile knowing that she is a part of the process for my spiritual journey. Yes, in the past someone constantly waving a
red flag would have caused steam to come from my ears, but glory be to God that I ain’t who I used to be. Therefore, I can’t respond like I used to respond.

Sistah, if you have a “treater” in your environment who walks with a red flag daily, then I encourage you to join me on this “Red Flag Bless Quest”. Yes, we will be tempted to snap back, but remember we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Will there be one?
