Joy even in pain…..

Last week a friend and I were talking about witnessing childbirth and how painful it looks! I shared my desire to personally experience pregnancy and childbirth and she basically said “WHY?!” She was trying to figure out why I would purposely want to endure such excruciating
pain. I responded that pain is temporary but it brings a lifetime of joy. The next day I reflected on our conversation and I realized that so many people miss out on joy because of the fear of pain.

Interestingly, a few days after my pain with childbirth conversation, I was surrounded by three mothers who spent time sharing their childbirth experiences and all of the agony that they went through. Each one of them shared their labor horror stories with the group. They had different experiences but PAIN was the common factor. Although, each mother spoke of pain during childbirth, they all ended their stories with a smile on their face and words of affection toward their children. Listening to the mothers was confirmation for me; much joy can come from painful experiences.

Sistah, there may be love, job opportunities, new experiences, and divine connections that we are missing out on because we are afraid of being hurt, disappointed, or rejected. Although, fear is false evidence appearing real, it can be a stronghold that hinders our growth and opportunities for joyful moments. I encourage you to seek God whenever you feel fear creeping into your spirit. Let your testimony be “I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. (Psalms 34:4). Great things will be birthed through you but fear not, the momentary pain is simply a part of the process of new birth!

God, I am a sinner and I know I do not deserve your grace or mercy. Still, I trust you and I believe that you sent your son to earth and that he died and rose again for my sins. I thank you Lord for the personal gift of salvation. Amen.
